Web design costs vary, depending on what you want on your site. It's all based on time - if you want a simple web presence using a standard template, expect to pay around £500. For a more personal result tailored to your specific product and market and with professional guidance in its future potential you should expect more input from your web designer, and consequently pay more.

If you have a budget you should tell your web designer what it is and ask what you should expect for that amount. Your web designer wants your business and will give you a realistic answer that does not disadvantage either party. You both then know what to expect.

As a guide, sites featured on the Sample Sites page range from £750 for those using out-of-the-box Big Medium templates to £5000 for the custom built complex sites. Most are between £1000 and £2000.

Service and maintainance is free for the first year, then £40 an hour after that.

Domain names cost around £7.50 a year and hosting varies depending on how much space you need, but don't expect to pay less than £50 a year for a reputable hosting company. As stated elsewhere, I would recommend Ecological Hosting. The owner is a committed environmentalist and his partner is part of the local artists scene.
